Donna Wilson has been designing and manufacturing her wonderful lambswool cushions since back in 2003. She only uses the finest fabrics opting for the most vibrant of colours. UK manufacturing and craft is an integral part of Donna’s work and each product is, wherever possible, lovingly made in the UK by skilled craftspeople.
She has her design studio in East London where her cushions are hand finished after being knitted in Scotland.
In the beginning…
Donna Wilson’s story started in rural Aberdeenshire in Scotland, where she spent her childhood on her parents’ farm.
'We used to have an old chicken house that became my cabin of craft… it was a place to hide from the adults and to have adventures. I would create sculptures using branches and twigs, i'd make mud pies then serve them in old pots and pans.
A love of nature
Through these early experiments, Donna developed a love for a natural landscape, the wildlife, and of course, making things – mostly using textiles and handcrafted techniques such as felting, sewing, knitting, and wrapping. When she was older, Donna packed her bags and set off for London where she mastered her home-taught talents at the London Royal College of Art.
15 years and several hundred thousand spools of yarn later…
Donna’s cabin of craft was relocated from the chicken house in Aberdeenshire to her busy studio in East London, the studio is filled to the rafters with her curious creations that you’ll find in over 30 countries around the world, loved by thousands for their individual charming warmth and familiarity.
Awards, exhibitions and collaborations
In the last fifteen years, Donna was named ‘Designer of the Year’ at Elle Decoration’s British Design Awards she exhibited a solo show of knitted sculptures and paintings entitled Endangered Species at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, she created a collection of childrenswear for the UK retailer, John Lewis and most recently her own line of womenswear.
